Carol,
Thankyou for this elegant but simple recipe. It will appear in the social hall after church when next we provide the goodies for social hour. I hope it will garner a thumbs up taste test from the author.
Thankyou also for featuring Kathy Fiske's artwork. It is a rare artist among many who can capture moving water so beautifully...and her Nova Scotia palette and July Fields are stunning!

Perhaps another part of the appeal is that it is a way to be certain of exactly what you are eating. I find it more and more difficult to justify buying packaged food when there is a long list of weird ingredients on the package. Thanks for visiting.

A great idea for future recipes this. Thank you for sharing it. Have you noticed how so many people appear to be cooking again? I wonder if the lack of funds due to the current climate has something to do with it and we all appear to be cooking again! its great!

What a charming oven. I bet it makes bread and cake taste even better. Did you make a pear cake. I'm a vendor at the Norwich Farmers' Market. I wonder if we have met?

My husband built an outside wood fired oven that is the sweetest thing you have ever seen. It looks like a small church. (There is a picture of it posted on the Thetford Famers Market website.) I made your apple cake in that oven a couple of weeks ago and it was superb. Such simple ingredients form a simple pleasure. I may try it with the ripe pears from our tree next !

I've been reading and trying your recipes. I love how they read like a story.... I love to cook because I love to eat. Small amounts of fabulous food. The blueberry muffins, the barley salad. Simply wonderful. Maryann.

Very cool to find an old recipe like that. Apple cake is one of my all time favorites.

My grandmother used to whip one up every Sunday, serve it warm from the oven with a bit of cold heavy cream drizzled over the top. How I wish I had her recipe!
